August is here, but before you start sharpening pencils for kids’ backpacks and eyeing your sweaters for fall, let’s soak up the last leg of summer together. From favorite furnishings and projects to my holy-grail sunscreen, here’s everything I’m into this month.
Currently Obsessed with: California Vibes
How do we do coastal at LTW? … We love bringing California vibes to our projects here on the East Coast by combining warm minimalism, white oak + neutral tones. It’s about creating a relaxing, laidback vibe, always comfy, never formal.

Project of the Month: Cove Design Project
Say hello to our Cove Project, featured in House Beautiful and photographed here by Alyssa Rosenheck. To infuse California style into our client’s East Coast home, we opted for a neutral palette full of textures and clean lines instead of the traditional rooms filled with navy or light blue hues. It feels modern and fresh, like a Malibu beach house. Subtly nodding to coastal New England style, too, there is even a stripe or two if you look closely…
This project unfolded organically from start to finish, including how we met our clients. After seeing a residence we staged on a Connecticut island nearby, they asked us to help create their dream home from the ground up. Once architect Mark P. Finlay and Nick Frate of Fox Hill Builders created the stunning shell, we jumped in with both feet to bring the interior decor to life.
With complete trust from our clients, the goal was to create a casual atmosphere that was effortlessly put together. White oak floors provided the casually chic Cali look we loved so much it even went on the ceiling under the second floor bridge. Always layering textures, we then warmed up the spaces with mohair throws, chunky knit pillows, and hand-woven rugs.
Pro Tip: Mixing Wood Tones
Don’t be afraid to mix it up and combine wood tones. Yes, white oak can live in a space with gray oak as see above in our Cove Project. Need some more ideas? Check out more of our projects here.
For the Road: The Sunscreen You’ll Love All Year Long
Long summer days may be ending but year round sunscreen is a must…my daily go-to favorite is Supergoop Glowscreen. My morning routine is quick + easy, face wash, lotion and Supergoop Glowscreen. Nice and simple…skin is protected and has a little glow.
I loved sharing our love of the laid back California style and how we infuse it into our projects. All year can feel a bit more like summer when you add elements and pieces mentioned above into your home.
But, don’t get me wrong; there are plenty of other places on the map that inspire us here at LTW Design. Hmm, did I just give a hint for the next Monthly Edit…? Stay tuned and wishing you a happy + healthy end to the summer!
