Every space asks to be understood before it’s designed. Not in square footage or furniture counts, but in how it will actually be used—how people arrive, where they linger, and what moments need room to unfold. In this project, the layout wasn’t a technical exercise. It was the foundation that allowed everything else to feel intentional.
Where The Room Begins
The lower lounge grounds the space. Positioned closer to the room’s natural circulation, it absorbs movement while remaining composed. Materials and proportions were chosen to feel settled and approachable, allowing the space to function effortlessly whether occupied or simply observed.
Setting the Tone
The greatest challenge of the space was its openness. To avoid a flat or overly minimal feeling, materials were layered with intention-oak, lime wash, stone, and brass working together to create depth rather than contrast. Light was treated as a design element guiding the eye through the room and giving each zone its own presence without fragmenting the whole.
The bar was always meant to anchor the room. Its scale gives the space a center of gravity, while the materiality keeps it refined rather than overpowering. Lighting beneath the counter and above it was used deliberately—to add warmth without spectacle.
The entry sets the tone without announcing itself. It offers clarity rather than drama—an intentional moment of arrival that gently orients rather than overwhelms. From here, the room unfolds naturally, without instruction or excess.
Color Palette & Texture
With structure in place, attention shifted to tone and texture. A restrained, monochromatic palette was softened through material contrast-curves against clean lines, tactile finishes against smoother surface-allowing the space to feel warm without becoming busy. The interplay of these elements brought a sense of warmth and elegance to the attic, making it the perfect setting for entertaining. Another recurring theme of the space is curved silhouettes. We wanted to juxtapose the clean lines of the bar and pendant lights with the furnishings, so we sourced curved sofas, chairs, bar counter stools, and accessories for softness.
The upper lounge was conceived as a place to pause rather than pass through. Its scale and softness invite lingering, with seating arranged to encourage conversation without forcing it. This area carries a quieter energy—removed just enough to feel private, yet still connected to the life of the room.
The Finishing Touches
To round out the space, we added a built-in window bench with a custom upholstered mohair cushion. This design move created yet another conversation zone and also added more moments of texture. In the Lower Lounge zone, we installed a Frame TV that doubles as art when turned off for the ultimate balance of form and function.
By thoughtfully dividing the space and meticulously selecting materials and finishes, we transformed the attic into a sophisticated lounge where our clients can host memorable gatherings. We loved bringing this project together, and it’s a true reflection of our studio’s commitment to creating beautiful, functional spaces, tailored to our clients’ specific requests.
Cheers to the many incredible parties this space will surely hold!
